Devon Daughety Is Up and Coming

On August 3, 2018, the Wisconsin Law Journal announced that Devon Daughety, of Kohner, Mann & Kailas, S.C. (KMK) was one of thirty Milwaukee attorneys selected as Up and Coming Lawyers. The honorees chosen for this award are on the fast track to making a significant impact on the legal profession. They represent determination — in legal work, in community betterment, and in improving their own law firms.
 
Since joining KMK, Devon has proven herself an exemplary attorney, not just with her legal prowess but also with her natural ability to get things done. She has shown time and again the drive to be an accomplished legal force while continuously learning and taking on ever-increasing responsibilities within the firm. In the two years since she earned her law degree, she has developed the capabilities and expertise most lawyers would require many more years to attain.
 
Devon’s current career path started at one of the nation’s largest financial institutions, working for more than eight years managing compliance projects for default servicing. While working, she earned her B.A. (summa cum laude) in political science from UW-Milwaukee. Upon graduation, she transferred to Arkansas where she continued to work for the same financial institution but also attended law school. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Cindy Thyer and the Honorable Barbara Halsey, both in the Second Judicial Circuit of Arkansas, and received her J.D. from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (magna cum laude) in 2016. Devon then returned to Milwaukee where she clerked for the Honorable G. Michael Halfenger in the United States Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Wisconsin.
 
KMK immediately recognized Devon’s innate passion to learn and lead and brought her in to be an integral part of KMK’s Finance Department. She currently provides counsel to the firm’s national client base in the areas of business and banking, mortgage default services, bankruptcy, secured transactions, commercial collections, construction lien and bond law, and affiliated commercial disciplines. In that role, she continually demonstrates tremendous maturity, sound judgment, and a dynamic work ethic that raises the level of the work of those around her. Clients and colleagues alike comment about how pleasurable it is to work with her.
 
Her practice is a hybrid between transactional and litigation, so many of the matters she oversees do not end up in court. However, she demonstrates a strong ability to negotiate and draft settlement agreements, which have considerable monetary consequences resulting in substantial value for the firm’s clients. She has been given escalating responsibilities since joining the firm and has handled each with the same enthusiasm, competence, and vigor she has demonstrated throughout her career.
 
Devon’s passion for the law extends beyond the firm. She volunteers as a mentor in a program run by the Milwaukee Bar Association’s Judge Clevert. There, she counsels young adults going to school in the City of Milwaukee and introduces them to the legal field, providing them with the opportunity to explore the legal profession as a potential career option.
 
Devon Daughety is richly deserving of being named one of Wisconsin Law Journal’s Up and Coming Lawyers. Her personable demeanor and impeccable client relations as well as her dedication to professional and community improvement make her the ideal candidate for this award.
 
On Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, the Wisconsin Law Journal recognized the rising stars at Discovery World’s Pilot House. Those chosen for this honor were also featured in a special Wisconsin Law Journal segment.
